Synthesizing conversational intonation from a linguistically rich input

چکیده
This paper describes a general system which maps from a phonological specification of an utterance’s intonation to a F0 contour. The system can accommodate a variety of feature based phonological description schemes. Speaker dependent characteristics can be modelled and an automatic method of determining these is described.

Synthesizing Elaborate Intonation Contours in Text-to-Speech for French
This paper presents a modular TTS system (called MINGUS) which exploits syntactic information contained in the input and allows additional annotation of the input in order to obtain particular intonation contours or to vary most prosodic parameters. This system is based on a tonal representation of French intonation, on a model of the interaction between syntax and prosody, and on a model of th...
متن کاملPaired Speech and Gesture Generation in Embodied Conversational Agents
Using face-to-face conversation as an interface metaphor, an embodied conversational agent is likely to be easier to use and learn than traditional graphical user interfaces. To make a believable agent that to some extent has the same social and conversational skills as humans do, the embodied conversational agent system must be able to deal with input of the user from different communication m...
متن کاملThe Role of Noticing in L2 Learners’ Production of Intonation Patterns
This study was an attempt to explore the role that the increased perceptual saliency of L2 input features or output flaws and hereby promoting L2 learners’ noticing (through planned instructional activities) can play in the learners’ use of correct English intonation patterns. The participants were 80 Iranian EFL students attending four intact classes, two low-intermediate and two upper-interme...
متن کاملAnalysis of factors involved in the choice of rising or non-rising intonation in question utterances appearing in conversational speech
In general, the end of question utterances is accompanied by a rising intonation. However, non-rising intonation is commonly observed in question utterances appearing in conversational speech. In order to clarify the factors involved in the choice of rising or non-rising intonation, in the present work, we analyzed question utterances extracted from Japanese conversational dialogue speech data ...
متن کاملSynthesizing Intonation using the RFC Model
This paper describes an implementation of the rise/fall/connection (RFC) model of intonation for use in the speech synthesis component of a machine interpretation system. The phonological input is described, as is the algorithm which converts this to a rise/fall/connection description, and eventually to an F contour. As we wish to model different speakers’ intonational characteristics, some det...
